CHESTERFIELD, Mo.—Work to demolish the former Chesterfield Mall property near Clarkson Road and Interstate 64 has shifted from the eastern side of the complex to the west, where more noticeable work to bring down the building is taking place as it makes way for a new urban mixed use development.
An October ceremony to kick off the work started on the east side, bringing down signage for an entrance to the mall, which closed at the end of August. Today, the noticeable facades for the former AMC Theater and The Cheesecake Factory are still largely intact.
But on the west side, activity has picked up sharply this week.
The building demolition will continue until April, when crews will then grade the land at the site to prepare for road, sidewalk and utility work that will begin next November.
The first buildings in the 90-acre “Downtown Chesterfield” won’t open until 2028, but a 3.3 acre park is scheduled to be ready by the summer of 2026. Officials with the Staenberg Group, which is developing the project, say renderings for the park should be ready in the coming weeks.
