ST. LOUIS–The home of the city’s Major League Soccer club has earned plaudits from domestic and international teams who have played here over the past two years, and now CITYPARK, which will soon be known as Energizer Park, has received an international award for its architecture.
Stadium designers accepted the Prix Versailles world title for contemporary architecture and design in the sports category on Monday in Paris.
Prix Versailles was established by an affiliate of the United Nations, UNESCO and since 2015 has recognized excellence in architecture across several different sectors, including hotels, airports and museums. It started a sports category in 2019.
“A critical tenet of St. Louis CITY SC’s mission is to see ourselves on the global stage, an exceptional club and neighbor, and help elevate the world’s view of St. Louis and the transformational role sporting venues can play in the community,” said Lee Broughton, St. Louis CITY SC’s chief brand architect and ownership group member in a team news release. “It is with a great sense of pride that we thank the Prix Versailles World Jury for this incredible honor and our talented partners, HOK and Snow Kreilich, for their exceptional work in designing CITYPARK to be a reflection of our city’s most beloved attributes.”
CITYPARK was one of only two U.S. facilities up for consideration, and beat out Gillette Stadium, home to the New England Patriots, among others for the honor.
In 2021, the honor went to SofI Stadium, now home to the Los Angles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers.
CITYPARK will become Energizer Park on Jan. 1, 2025.
