GENESEO, Mo. — The Illinois State Police's Blackhawk Area Task Force made two arrests following a traffic stop that resulted in the seizure of 1,146 pounds of cocaine.
Police arrested 27-year-old Vanshpreet Singh and 36-year-old Manpreet Singh, both from Ontario, Canada, for three Class X felonies each: possession of cocaine, possession with intent to deliver cocaine, and cocaine trafficking.
At 2:10 p.m. on Nov. 29, an ISP trooper pulled over a tractor-trailer on I-80 in Henry County. During the trooper’s commercial motor vehicle inspection, they recognized numerous indicators of criminal activity and conducted a search. The search revealed $40 million of cocaine. ISP seized 1,146 pounds of the drug.
“ISP’s coordinated focus on trafficking is helping keep dangerous drugs out of our communities,” said ISP Director Brendan F. Kelly. “From commercial motor vehicle inspections to daily patrol to targeted anti-violence and trafficking details, ISP is making communities safer.”
Authorities took the two Canadians into custody and transported them to the Henry County Jail pending a pre-trail release hearing. ISP notified Homeland Security Investigations on the matter and they’re providing assistance.
