ST. LOUIS — Construction to improve Interstate 70 from Warrenton to Wentzville (I-64) is slated to start next spring.

This is part of the Improve I-70 project, which includes nearly 200 miles of I-70 in both directions across Missouri repairs and improvements, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT).

On Monday night, crews completed the first concrete pour of new pavement on I-70 in Callaway County, which is along the route from Columbia to Kingdom City.

The pavement will be the new inside lane and shoulder of westbound I-70 just west of Route M. Nightly work will continue over the next couple of weeks on this first stretch of new road.

Completion of the entire corridor is projected by the end of 2030.

The I-70 corridor from Warrenton to Wentzville will be modernized, as the interstate was originally constructed more than 50 years ago, according to MoDOT.

Below is a list of interstate improvements as stated by MoDOT:

  • Add a third lane of travel to eastbound and westbound I-70 between Warrenton and Wentzville.
  • Interchange and outer road improvements in Wright City.
  • Realignment at the railroad bridge on I-70 between Wentzville Parkway and Route Z.
  • Interchange improvements at I-70 and I-64/Route 61.
  • Add a third lane of travel to eastbound and westbound I-64 between I-70 and Route K.
  • Bridge replacement in Foristell.

Funds from the general revenue is paying for the third lane of I-70 in each direction from Warrenton to Wentzville, according to MoDOT.

The $40 million in additional general revenue funds have been issued for interchange and outer road improvements in Warren County.

The Improve I-70 project also will incorporate the realignment at the railroad bridge between Wentzville Parkway and Route Z, improvements at the I-70/I-64 interchange and adding the third lane on I-64 from I-70 to Route K, according to MoDOT.

All of which are being funded through previously programmed MoDOT STIP projects.

MoDOT says its STIP funds and $4 million in Economic Development Cost Share funds have been secured for bridge replacement work in Foristell.
