ST. LOUIS — From celebrating American abolitionists to taking a scary tram ride to the top of the Arch, there are several events happening in the St. Louis area this weekend, Oct. 19-20.
The Heritage Museum in St. Charles and Big Muddy Historical Gaming Alliance will host a historical game day Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Game masters will host game tables where guests can learn how to play or watch 3D historical miniature games, which are based on the Battle of Louis and the Attack on Cahokia.
The event is free and for ages 10 and up. Registration is required.

St. Charles’ annual “Legends & Lanterns” event is Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
The event for all ages celebrates All Hallow’s Eve with character interactions, historical exhibits and frightful experiences.

The 22nd Mary Meachum Freedom Crossing Celebration is Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. at the Mississippi Greenway, 28 E. Grand Avenue.
Mary Meachum and her husband, Rev. John Berry Meachum, were American abolitionists who dedicated their lives to educating and freeing enslaved people. Every year, a celebration is held to honor the Meachums’ contribution to the abolishment of slavery.
This year’s event will feature historical performances, music, vendors, gospel choirs and children’s activities. A free, family-friendly bike ride from the Mary Meachum Freedom Crossing to the Gateway Arch and back will start at noon.

The Gateway Arch will host its “Frights & Heights” event Saturday from 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Attendees are encouraged to wear their best costumes and participate in Halloween activities, including freaky face painting, ‘boo-loon’ animals, creepy crafts and games, ghost stories, a puppet show, trick or tram rides and more.
General admission is free, but tram ride ticket prices may vary. Registration is required.

The Magical Christmas Ballet has partnered with The Magic House to bring an interactive “Nutcracker” experience for children to immerse themselves in the magic of ballet.
The event is Sunday from 2-4:15 p.m. at The Magic House.
Children can join Maria Molotsiyan, principal Ukrainian ballerina and company member of tour, for an interactive dance class followed by a performance, showcasing the breathtaking artistry of the Slavic variation.
A group of youth dancers from Bridgeman Academy of Performing Arts who have been cast in the upcoming St. Louis performances will join Molotsiyan to share their experience on being part of the production.
