ST. LOUIS – The City of Saint Louis plans traffic safety improvements on Chippewa outside of Ted Drewes to occur between January and March 2025. The timing was to minimize the impact on Ted Drewes’ operations as it would be during the business’s off-season.

What You Need To Know

  • There are plans to improve safety outside of Ted Drewes on Chippewa for pedestrians

  • The plans are currently delayed due to design changes and traffic signal equipment's long lead time

  • Among the plans: a relocation of the east lot entrance, an accessible signaled mid-block crossing, improved lighting, bump-out bollards in front, and a real time crime center camera

Among the proposed plans:

  • A relocation of the east parking lot entrance at 6726 Chippewa

  • An accessible signaled mid-block crossing

  • Improved lighting for visibility

  • New bump out bollards and fencing to separate patrons from traffic in front of the store

  • A Pan-Tilt-Zoom camera connected to the Real Time Crime Center to help increase security

“This project has been delayed, in part because traffic signal equipment has a very long lead time and is an integral component of the phasing of the project,” said Rasmus Jorgensen, Deputy Director of Communications for the City of St. Louis Mayor’s Office. "Ted Drewes has had many requests for changes to the design, and the City has worked diligently with them to find the best solution.”
