ST. LOUIS—An informed St. Louis is a safer St. Louis. That's the message from the city police department as it unveiled a new mapping tool that will let the public see most incidents involving criminal activity.

Located at slmpd.org/mapping, new data is updated every 24 hours and can be mapped for six months. Domestic violence, sex crimes and cases involving juvenile-related offenses won’t be available, and the data won’t pinpoint the exact address but to the 100-block of a particular street.

Homicide cases may be delayed depending on the nature of an investigation and the availability of a report.

Chief Robert Tracy used the tool in his last position as Chief of Police in Wilmington, Del.

“This was very well received in my last police department and I know it's going to be very well received here, Tracy said. Everything's on the table, lets work together, to try to improve the situation… What are the conditions, what type of crime is happening here and how we can work together to improve it and I think that’s what builds trust.”

The Florissant, Mo. Police Department uses the same system which is also active in the Kansas City area.
