NEW HAVEN, Mo. — Days after a warehouse facility containing 50 tons of charcoal that caught fire early Thursday morning in New Haven is still slowly burning.
The New Haven-Berger Fire Protection District was dispatched to the 500 block of Orchard Street Thursday just after 5 a.m., according to Fire Chief Brian Strubberg.
Firefighters worked with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources to monitor the burn for potential hazards. They were onsite for approximately 12 hours.
It was estimated that the warehouse facility contained 100,000 pounds of charcoal.
The building owner continues to monitor the slow burning fire, according to Strubberg.
There is no expected time when it will end.
“It’s a product that’s meant to burn,” Strubberg said. “It’s going to burn until it burns itself out.”
The warehouse tenant is barbecue supplier Blues Hog.
The cause of the fire is under investigation with the Missouri State Fire Marshal.
