ST. LOUIS – Ameren Missouri says senior citizens may now apply for the Low income home energy assistance program (LIHEAP). 

Through LIHEAP, qualifying customers may receive emergency services like lodging, central air replacement and repairs, and window air conditioners. To receive LIHEAP, you must apply at the Missouri Department of Social Services LIHEAP page

The energy assistance provides a onetime payment for one fuel type for your heating or cooling costs from October to May.

The Department of Social Services says qualified customers can receive federally funded assistance to lower home energy bills, energy crises, weatherization, and minor energy-related home repairs. 

To be eligible:

  • You must be a Missouri resident
  • A U.S. citizen or be legally admitted for permanent residence
  • Live in the household, be responsible for paying the utility bill, must be over 18 and included on the application
  • Have $3,000 or less in bank accounts, investments or retirement accounts
  • Meet income guidelines in the below income eligibility chart.
