ST. LOUIS—Alfred Montgomery has won the recount for Saint Louis Sheriff by 221 votes, solidifying his win from last month's primary.

A machine recounted the ballots, confirming Montgomery beat incumbent Vernon Betts.

The Saint Louis Board of Election Commissioners conducted a recount after Betts asked a judge to order one.

The official election results showed Montgomery beat Betts by 256 votes.

The two ran against each other in the Aug. 2020 Primary where Betts handily defeated Montgomery with 61% percent of the vote to his 28%.

Montgomery, a former sheriff's deputy, will face a Libertarian opponent Joy Denise Dabney in November.
