Ferguson city officials released body cam video and surveillance footage from Friday night protests outside the police station marking 10 years since Michael Brown’s death.

Police Chief Troy Doyle said the body camera footage shows that the suspect, 28-year-old Elijah Gantt of East St. Louis, Ill., charged at Officer Brown on a sidewalk outside the police station after protesters attempted to pull down a perimeter fence.

One of the videos released appears to show at least Gantt on top of the officer on the sidewalk for a short period of time.

Two other officers also were hurt, one sustaining an ankle injury and another an abrasion. Both were treated at the scene.

"Travis is more than a police officer; he is a devoted father, son, brother, uncle, godfather, and friend. A man of strong faith, his heart is as big as his smile, and his positive energy is truly contagious," the statement said in part. "We know he is determined to continue living life to the fullest once he has recovered."

Travis Brown, 36, is the son of a retired St. Louis city police officer and the father of two young daughters. Soon after graduating from college, he joined the St. Louis County Police Department. He joined the Ferguson police force in January.

Brown’s family says over the years, they have supported many heroes, both locally and abroad, who have suffered in the line of duty. The post adds, their family stands for peace and in these challenging times, they pray for unity.

They are asking for the community’s continued prayers as they focus on Travis’ recovery. For those wanting to make a donation, the family is directing them to the Ferguson Police Department who says it will ensure the money reaches the family. There is also a GoFundMe account set up under “Support for Officer Travis Brown.”

Gantt is charged with assault of a special victim, resisting arrest and property damage. Four other people face charges related to the protests as well.
