WENTZVILLE, MO –Nearly 500 Lear Corp. workers are back on the job today after the union reached a tenative agreement with the truck seat manufacturer, according to the union president. The strike also halted work at the Wentzville GM since the company supplied seats to the automaker.

The workers at Lear Corp. wanted better pay and safer conditions. Details of the agreement have not yet been released.

One reason Lear strikers feel they deserve more is the recent success of GM autoworkers who saw an increase in their hourly rate by 25%, now at $42.50.

The Lear Corp. celebrated a record-breaking first quarter with a revenue of $6 billion, according to its website. Their workers make seats for the GM Canyon, Colorado, Safari, and Express Van. There are about 4,600 workers at the GM plant.

“We’re $24.65 right now and we need to make $35,” said Lear striker Keith Bevel. “We need $34.50 guys. If you want the seats, the A1 seats; we make the seats every day. We put love in your seats and to keep America safe, the world safe, anyone who drives our GM vehicles. And we need a bigger bonus guys, cause we’re tired of being broke! We’re working six days a week and you ain’t giving us no money man.”
