O’FALLON, MO — A DoorDash delivery worker was shot after delivering food to the wrong home.

According to authorities, the Dasher realized the mistake and went back to the home but was shot by the homeowner, Dwayne Jones.

“Dwayne Jones approached the victim while still in his driveway, and shot the victim one time in the abdominal area,” stated Detective Carl Cunningham in the probable cause statement. “The victim was located laying down in the residential driveway by responding officers. Witnesses applied life-saving measures. The victim was then rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, and immediately taken into surgery.”

Jones was cooperative with police and taken into custody at the scene. Jones made several statements acknowledging that he shot the victim, but during a formal interview, Jones refused any further statement with the presence of an attorney, investigators said. Police do not believe the DoorDash driver threatened Jones prior to being shot.

Jones’ past criminal history led the courts to hold him without bond. He was charged with assault in the first degree and armed criminal action. He entered a plea of not guilty and asked for a public defender for representation. His next court appearance is July 17 at 9 a.m. The St. Charles County Prosecutor’s Office said they will advocate for no change to Jones being held without bond at the hearing.

DoorDash released a statement on the incident, "We are deeply shocked and horrified by this senseless act of violence. There is no excuse or justification for what happened, and we are fully supporting law enforcement with their investigation. Our immediate concern is the wellbeing of the Dasher, and we continue to pray for his recovery.
