Five and a half miles of Interstate 55 will be resurfaced by Illinois Department of Transportation.
Lanes will be closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. from Sunday evening to Friday morning. Pavement patching is expected to conclude in mid-July and the resurfacing in mid-September.
The construction starts at the Sangamon County line and ends south of the Farmersville interchange at exit 72. IDOT will also patch pavement between exit 60 (Illinois 108/Carlinville) and the Madison County line.
Additional work of the resurfacing project includes culvert and inlet repairs, new pavement markings and shoulder preservation. The project is to improve driving surface and drainage.
IDOT plans to spend the next six years improving more than 3,000 miles of highway and nearly 10 millions square feet of bridge deck. The projects are a part of the Rebuild Illinois Capital Program.
