ST. CHARLES, Mo. — The St. Charles City Police Department is cracking down on speeding this summer.

Approximately 30 officers will conduct traffic enforcement on certain days sporadically from now until Aug. 31. This is part of the police department’s zero-tolerance initiative.

The police department will not announce when officers will watch out for speeders, but it could happen either once a month or multiple times per month, according to Lt. Daniel Gibbons.

“We have lots of complaints from our residents of speeding all across the city,” he said. “Not only in subdivisions, but also on city streets and also the highways.”

The purpose of the zero-tolerance initiative is for drivers to slow down and conscientiously be aware of their speed, and increase safety, according to Gibbons.

“We’re really trying to spotlight the dangers of speeding and for everybody to think about their speed while they’re going through St. Charles,” he said.
