JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. — The identity of the suspect who was shot and killed by police during an exchange of gunfire with officers Thursday morning has been released.

Around 7 a.m., the St. Louis Metropolitan Police encountered a stolen vehicle and when officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspect began shooting, according to Jefferson County Sheriff Dave Marshak.

A pursuit then began at Broadway and Schirmer, traveling through multiple jurisdictions and ended in Jefferson County.

The suspect and SLMPD engaged in a shootout in the 1100 block of Westward Trails Drive in Imperial where the suspect was shot and killed, according to Marshak.

No officers or citizens were injured.

The suspect has been identified as 45-year-old Terry Pfeffer of Arnold.

Police have interviewed witnesses, confirming that the suspect fired at police, Marshak said.

There was a female passenger in the stolen vehicle who is in custody and is cooperating with the investigation. Her identity has not been released.

Pfeffer was “well-known” by police and had an “extensive” criminal history, including drug charges, assault, tampering with a motor vehicle and resisting arrest. A handgun was recovered at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing by police.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
