ST. LOUIS — Two legendary names in baseball broadcasting will reunite next Friday in the St. Louis Cardinals television booth.

Joe Buck will join Chip Caray to broadcast the Cardinals’ game against the Chicago Cubs on Bally Sports Midwest, according to a press release.

“We’re thrilled to have two of the best broadcasters of their generation team up to call another chapter in the Cardinals-Cubs rivalry and link decades of Cardinals and baseball history,” said Jack Donovan, Bally Sports Midwest general manager and senior vice president.

Buck will call his first local Cardinals telecast in 17 years as he broadcasted games on FOX Sports Midwest and the Cardinals Radio Network from 1991 to 2007. He currently is the play-by-play announcer for Monday Night Football on ESPN, according to the press release.

“I’m excited to bring it back to where it all started for me in the big leagues,” Buck said.

“The Cards are a part of my DNA and it will be fun to be their guy on the air for a night. Chip is a longtime friend, and I am a big fan of his, so to work with him will make it that much better. It’s his booth, and I’m just the guest, and that’s how I’ll treat it.”

He will fill in for Brad Thompson and Jim Edmonds on May 24.

Both broadcasters have followed in their family’s footsteps of Jack Buck, the father of Joe Buck, and Harry Caray, Chip Caray’s grandfather. Jack and Harry called Cardinals games together from 1954-1959 and 1961-1969 on KMOX, according to the press release.

“Holy cow, this should be fun,” Caray said.

“I’ve known Joe since our days together in the early days with FOX. I grew up listening to his dad, and my kids have grown up listening to him. I’m really looking forward to a night of laughs, stories and great memories of the guys who made us possible.”

This is Caray’s second season as the television voice of the Cardinals.

Pregame coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. with the first pitch scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
