ST. LOUIS — The multi-million dollar revitalization project of Powell Hall has been making progress.
The 100-year-old building is home to the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra (SLSO). Construction to Powell Hall began in March 2023.
“There’s a lot of infrastructure improvements that need to take place so that the next generation of music lovers can enjoy the space,” said Eric Dundon, public relations director for SLSO.
“And that’s a really key part of this project is preserving what we have for future generations of music listeners.”
The $140 million project includes several new and enhanced public amenities, including:
- A new lobby and box office
- New auditorium seats
- ADA and accessibility improvements
- Additional restrooms
- Concession areas and elevators
- Additional entrances and coat check
- A café and terrace
- Outdoor gathering spaces
- A drop-off lane
- A donor lounge
- An expanded retail space
Back stage expansion amenities include:
- A new education and learning center
- New dressing rooms
- A musician lounge,
- Updated and expanded instrument storage
- A new music library
- New and additional practice rooms
The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra is seeking to raise $155 million with $15 million for SLOSO’s endowment. So far, more than $145 million has been raised.
Additional updates include:
- Acoustical preservation and enhancement
- Delmar/Grand intersection improvements
- A loading dock
- Updated electrical
- HVAC
- Plumbing
- Fire suppression systems
- A new catering kitchen,
- New catwalks
- Office space improvements
Powell Hall is planned to reopen in 2025.
