ST. LOUIS—Unless you know where you’d store the eclipse viewing glasses you used Monday for the next time they’re needed for an eclipse visible in the U.S. in 2044, there are better places to put them to good use much sooner, instead of throwing them away or allowing them to collect dust at home.
Parts of South America will see a partial eclipse in October. The Refill Effect, located at 204 N. Clay in Kirkwood, is collecting used glasses that will be donated to children so they can safely watch the "ring of fire" annular solar eclipse that will be visible in parts of southern Chile and southern Argentina.
The School District of University City is also accepting undamaged viewing glasses at any district school through April 19.
Each of the three Warby Parker retail locations in the area, including Town and Country, Frontenac and the Central West End, will also collect them through the end of the month, when they’ll be donated to Astronomers Without Borders.
