ST. LOUIS — From a lantern festival and an Easter egg hunt to a dog-friendly art exhibit and learning about the solar eclipse, there are many events happening in the Lou this weekend.

Below are some events taking place March 23-24:  

Animals Aglow

Animals Aglow at the St. Louis Zoo runs Wednesdays through Sundays, 6:30-9:30 p.m., from March 13 to May 5.

The lantern festival features more than 60 larger-than-life Chinese lanterns and interactive displays in the shape of plants and wildlife illuminating paths throughout the Zoo at night.

African Film Festival

Washington University will host its 2024 African Film Festival set for March 22-24. The film festival will feature the latest and best of African Cinema.

Ballin' in the Lou

The St. Louis County Police Department and the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department face off in a friendly basketball competition Saturday, March 23, starting at noon.

The event will include free food and giveaways.

Doors open at 11:30 a.m. at Vashon High School, located at 3035 Cass Avenue.

Eckert's

Eckert's Belleville Farm will host its Easter “Egg-Citement” event March 23-24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event includes an Easter egg hunt in the fields, a petting zoo, tractor rides around the farm, plant a seed to take home, cookie icing, face painting, a duck pond, a free photo scene and a gift from the Easter Bunny, according to a press release.

Children are only required a ticket for this event that can be purchased at the door. Easter Bunny photos and Easter baskets are available for purchase.

Ferguson Art Exhibition

Webster University will host an art exhibition titled “Ferguson and Beyond: Artistic Responses to a Decade of Social Upheaval 2014-2024.”

The exhibition features individual and cultural histories that followed the killing of Michael Brown Jr. in Ferguson almost 10 years ago.

“The exhibition includes painting, sculpture, video and poetry with a focus on responses from artists of color from the St. Louis region and beyond,” according to the Facebook event page.

The exhibition opens Friday, March 22, and runs through April 26.

Foundry Art Centre

An interactive art exhibition for dogs will take place at the Foundry Art Centre Saturday, March 23, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The free event will feature artwork by area artists with dog-friendly color spectrum palettes, canine portraits of pups at the St. Charles Animal Shelter that are looking to be adopted, pup-friendly sculpture and video installations and more.

Gateway Arch

Gateway Arch National Park will host a free solar eclipse event Saturday, March 23, at 2 p.m.  Don Ficken, Missouri Eclipse task force leader, will talk about how eclipses happen, and when and where to safely view the April 8 solar eclipse.

The event is open for all ages and attendees will receive free solar glasses. The free solar viewing will be held on the Entrance Plaza until 4 p.m.

Missouri Historical Society

A walking tour of Dogtown will take place Sunday, March 24, starting at 10 a.m. The event is by the Missouri Historical Society in its See STL program.

The Dogtown tour will include visiting St. James: the Greater Catholic Church, Tamm Avenue and other hidden gems.
