ST. LOUIS — To showcase the St. Louis community, 28 murals by local artists will be displayed throughout the city this summer.
The St. Louis Mural Project Grants is a one-time, $1.4 million grant opportunity, funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), for working artists to create a mural that represents one of the 14 city wards. Each ward will have two murals, according to the grant application guidelines.
The project is in partnership with the Regional Arts Commission of St. Louis (RACSTL) and the city of St. Louis. Artists can apply online through March 14. Murals are set to be complete by July 31.
Each ward will have up to $92,560 for two murals completed by two artists chosen by the alderpersons. Selected artists will be the sole recipients of the awarded funds for the completion of the murals and must be a city resident, according to the grant application guidelines.
The murals must incorporate an aspect of community engagement or highlight historical ward significance.
“The St. Louis Mural Project Grant provides a unique opportunity for local artists and community members to meaningfully participate in creative place-making and provides an arts and culture experience for St. Louis residents and visitors,” the website states.
