ST. PETERS, MO. — While the Spencer Road Branch of the St. Charles City-County Library is under renovation, a temporary location recently opened at the Mid Rivers Mall.

Renovations to the Spencer Road Branch include, reconfiguring the atrium to create a more welcoming and service-oriented experience and adding a patio cover to the area to provide a more comfortable outdoor space for gatherings, classes, events and individual use, according to St. Charles City-County Library’s website.

The patio project is partially funded by the Library Foundation. The cost of the renovations is approximately $2.1 million, according to the website. It is expected to reopen in late spring.

The Spencer Road Branch originally opened in March 2012 and has welcomed an average of more than 300,000 visitors annually, according to the website.

The temporary Mid Rivers Mall space is located next to Dillards, above Maurices, and offers a browsing collection, public computers, WiFi, printing and copying services, classes and events for adults, teens and children.

In July, the Middendorf-Kredell Branch also will receive renovations, including new restrooms, carpet, meeting and study rooms, service desk and more. This branch was built in 1995.

The renovations will cost approximately $2.1 million.

“This O’Fallon location will receive the most significant portion of the Library’s capital expenditures,” the website states.

The expected completion is set for early 2025.

The renovations of both branches are part of the Library’s new strategic plan, “Destination 2027.”
