JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo.—Icy conditions in Imperial, Mo. had a firetruck spinning down a residential street Monday morning.

No one was hurt in the incident involving the Rock Community Fire Protection District while they were dispatched to Parkside Place.

The department says the 56,000 pound apparatus began to slide due to the weather conditions and eventually struck a car involved in the original accident.

The firetruck and car both were damaged but there were no structures with damage.

Katelynn Voisey posted video on Facebook and explained that someone hit her car and then landed on a fire hydrant. A pick up truck then hit that car and then the firetruck slammed one of those cars and used it as a buffer to not hit the house.

Fire Chief Kevin Wingbermuehle with the Rock Community Fire Protection District said the situation was “undoubtely harrowing.” He also commented that “the adeptness displayed by the apparatus operator in making swift decisions and maintaining composure is truly commendable and unequivocally prevented a much more serious outcome.”

The crew involved will be using a backup apparatus and will soon resume duties on the streets, according to fire officials.

Chief Wingbermuehle also is encouraging people share the video of the incident saying it “provides a pivotal opportunity to highlight the daily challenges and hazards faced by firerfighters, the inhernet risks in adverse weather conditions and the importance of being prepared.”

One video shot by Joe Lawson and posted on Facebook shows the firetruck spinning more than 360 degrees before hitting something and coming to a stop in a driveway, narrowly avoiding a house.

Voisey’s video shows the firetruck coming down the road before it starts spinning. Caution, this video includes some profane language before you hear the crash.
