1. Hawley vows to derail defense policy bill without funding for radiation victims
Activists from the St. Louis area have made their way to the U.S. Capitol again to appeal for final passage of legislation that would include funding for victims of nuclear radiation. An amendment of the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act awaiting final passage of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) would make people living in 20 St. Louis ZIP codes with certain illnesses eligible for the compensation.Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., and sponsor of the radiation amendment, said Tuesday while he feels good about where things stand, he’s ready to stand in the way if the provision gets removed.
2. Child dies in fall from apartment building in downtown Kansas City
Police in Kansas City, Missouri, are investigating the circumstances that led to a child's death in a fall from a downtown apartment building. Police have not confirmed the child's name but say it was a boy under age 12. Capt. Corey Carlisle said Tuesday that police are still working to determine how far he fell.
3. MoDOT wants to hear from St. Louis community on Route 100 project
The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is seeking community input on Route 100 in St. Louis City to help develop improvements along the corridor. MoDOT is planning to resurface Route 100 (Manchester and Chouteau) between Interstate 55 and city limits in 2025.
4. IDF says Hamas has released 12 hostages from captivity in Gaza
The Israeli military says Hamas has begun releasing 12 hostages from captivity in the Gaza Strip. The army said the first two hostages were transferred to Egypt late Wednesday. Ten others were expected to soon be freed.
5. Kyle Gibson can earn $500,000 in annual performance bonuses in deal with Cardinals
Kyle Gibson can earn an additional $500,000 in performance bonuses each season in his deal with the St. Louis Cardinals, which guarantees the 36-year-old right-hander $13 million. Gibson's contract, announced Nov. 21, calls for a $12 million salary next year and includes a $12 million club option for 2025 with a $1 million buyout. He would earn a $500,000 bonus in any year he pitches 175 or more innings.
