The St. Louis Cardinals sign two veteran pitchers as the team works to beef up its bullpen during the offseason. Cardinals World Series winner Lance Lynn and Kyle Gibson will, who has appeared in 300 games for four teams, both signed a one-year contract.

AP sources reported the Lynn news yesterday, which the Cardinals confirmed Tuesday. Lynn will make $10 million this season according to AP. The deal includes a club option for 2025 with a $1 million buyout.

The 36-year-old Lynn was the 39th overall pick by the Cardinals in the 2008 draft, broke into the big leagues with the club three years later — when the Cardinals won the World Series — and became an All-Star while winning 72 games over six seasons. Lynn has since spent time with the Twins, Yankees, Rangers and White Sox before finishing this past season with the Dodgers.

“We are excited to have Lance back with the Cardinals, he was a big part of our success when he was here,” stated Cardinals President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak in a statement from the team. “Lance brings a veteran mindset, built on durability, experience, and his ability to work a high volume of innings.  His addition is an important piece as we continue assembling our rotation and roster for next season.”

Pitcher Kyle Gibson is a Mizzou alum who has played in the MLB for 11 years. He signed a one-year deal with a club option for 2025.

Gibson has played for Minnesota, Texas, Philadelphia and Baltimore where he has a career record of 104-100 with a 4.54 ERA and 1,359 strikeouts over 1,696 innings.

He has appeared in four career postseason games, with three of those appearances coming over the last two seasons with Philadelphia and Baltimore.

Monday, the team also announced former player Daniel Descalso will be a new coach and promised more coaching additions.

Descalso was tapped as Bench Coach after Joe McEwing has been named Special Assistant to John Mozeliak, the President of Baseball Operations.
