ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo.—Convicted murderer Richard Emery has been sentenced to serve 210 years in prison in addition to the death sentence he received for the murder of four people in 2018, that’s according to the St. Charles County Prosecutor’s office.

Emery, 51, was sentenced after being found guilty of seven counts of armed criminal action, three counts of assault and one count of attempted robbery. These charges were not addressed in the original trial.

He was convicted in 2022 of killing his girlfriend,  Kate Kasten, 39, her mother, Jane Moeckel, 61 and Kasten’s two children. During the trialpProsecutors alleged he shot the relatives after Kasten told him to leave while they argued. Emery’s attorneys argued he had a mental illness that caused him to go into a “dream-like state.”

“Mr. Emery received the justice he deserved. No amount of incarceration will ever be sufficient to address the harm he has caused both physically and emotionally to so many people,” said St. Charles County Prosecuting attorney Joseph G. McCulloch about the additional sentence.
