ST. LOUIS — Two high schools within St. Louis Public Schools were recently selected as the top best high schools in the state and were ranked high nationally, according to a new U.S. News and World Report rankings.
Metro Academic and Classical High School was ranked No. 1 in Missouri and No. 99 nationally.
The U.S. News rankings feature data on almost 25,000 public schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia, according to the website.
Almost 18,000 schools were ranked on six factors based on performance on state-required tests, graduation and college readiness.
Students at Metro can take International Baccalaureate (IB) coursework and exams and the school has an IB participation rate of 98%, according to the report.
With a minority enrollment of 54 % and 99% of students are economically disadvantaged, the graduation rate is 99% with a college readiness score of 78.4.
Collegiate School of Medicine and Bioscience (CSMB) was ranked at No. 2 in Missouri and No. 150 nationally by U.S. News and World Report.
Students have the chance to take Advanced Placement (AP)coursework and exams and the school has an AP participation rate of 90%.
With a minority enrollment of 56% and 99% of students are economically disadvantaged, the graduation rate is 94% with a college readiness score of 62.7.
McKinley Classical Leadership Academy was ranked at No. 18 in Missouri.
U.S. News and World Report ranked Ladue Horton Watkins High School within Ladue School District No. 3 in Missouri and No. 347 nationally.
Students have the chance to take AP coursework and exams and the school has an AP participation rate of 67%.
With a minority enrollment of 46% and 8% of students are economically disadvantaged, the graduation rate is 98% with a college readiness score of 60.6.
Clayton High School in the School District of Clayton was ranked at No. 4 in Missouri and No. 450 nationally.
Students have the chance to take AP coursework and exams and the school has an AP participation rate of 65%.
With a minority enrollment of 36% and 7% of students are economically disadvantaged, the graduation rate is 100% with a college readiness score of 57.2.
Kirkwood Senior High School in Kirkwood School District was ranked at No. 5 in Missouri and No. 503 nationally.
Students have the chance to take AP coursework and exams and the school has an AP participation rate of 56%.
With a minority enrollment of 22% and 7% of students are economically disadvantaged, the graduation rate is 98% with a college readiness score of 51.
Four high schools in the Fort Zumwalt School District were ranked in the top 44 in Missouri and in the top 21% in the country, according to the district’s Facebook post.
The schools are Fort Zumwalt South, West, East and North.
“Of the nearly 18,000 schools ranked, only the top 40% earned eligibility to display a U.S. News Best High Schools 2023 badge. U.S. News ‘Best’ badges are widely recognized as symbols of excellence in U.S. education,” the Facebook post states.
“The rankings are produced in conjunction with RTI International, a global research firm. U.S. News doesn’t collect data directly from high schools – all data comes directly from official third-party sources.”
