WENTZVILLE, Mo.—Monday, the public gets its first chance to learn details surrounding the state of Missouri’s plan to add a third lane of traffic to Interstate 70 from Wentzville to Blue Springs, as state transportation officials begin a series of open house-style meetings across the state.

The first session is set for Monday afternoon from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Board of Aldermen meeting room at Wentzville City Hall.

The 200 mile, $2.8 billion project, which was approved in the 2024 state budget, will take between 5-7 years to finish and is currently in the planning stages.

The meetings are a chance to get what MoDOT calls “preliminary information” on possible construction schedules and how the project could be staged.

MoDOT said Monday that the Wentzville to Warrenton stretch of the project could be awarded in November of 2024 and would take four years to finish. At a cost of up to $500 million, the project will also include the proposed re-design of the I-70 interchange with I-64/Highway 40 and Highway 61.

An online portal for public feedback opens Monday and will close Sept. 22.
