ST. CHARLES, Mo. — A section of North Main Street in St. Charles remains closed as work continues after a water main broke Sunday night.
The water main at the 200 block of North Main Street has been repaired, and full-service and pressure has been restored, according to a St. Charles City Facebook post.
The 200 block of North Main is closed for street repairs, according to the post. Also, additional work will take place over the next several days which will not cause disruption to service.
Leaked water washed away the sand that was underneath the brick pavement, which damaged about 250 feet of the street, according to Nick Galla, director of public works for the city of St. Charles.
“We have the bricks pulled up that need to be replace, but with all of that wet sand, each brick has to be cleaned,” Galla said. “There’s sand and other particles that stick to those bricks, so we have to scrape that all off and then redo the sand underneath, and then put the bricks back all by hand.”
He said work is on track to have the street reopened to traffic by at least Wednesday with full restoration completed by this weekend’s Fourth of July festivities.
The story will be updated as more information becomes available.
