ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — The public will have its first chance to explore the newest addition to the Meramec Greenway on Saturday.

The Great Rivers Greenway and its partners, including MoDOT, the Municipal League of St. Louis County and the cities of Sunset Hills, Kirkwood and Fenton, are celebrating the completion of a separate walking and biking path on the new Interstate 44 bridge over the Meramec River west of Interstate 270.

The path connects Emmenegger Nature Park, Unger Park, Fenton City Park, Old Town Fenton and George Winter Park.

According to Great Rivers Greenway:

“On the east side of the river, the bridge touches down at a new trailhead on Stoneywood Drive next to Emmenegger Nature Park on the border between Kirkwood and Sunset Hills. The trailhead features a covered picnic shelter, parking lot, bike racks, a bike fix-it station, native plants and a rain garden.

The west touchdown point connects to the Meramec Greenway at the intersection of Rudder and Yarnell roads. The intersection now features a pedestrian crosswalk signal for people to safely cross Yarnell Road.”

Saturday’s event features a 10 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony at Emmenegger Nature Park (11991 Stoneywood Dr., St. Louis, MO 63122) at 10 a.m.

Parking is not available at the Nature Park. The public can park at Fenton City Park (1215 Larkin Williams Road, Fenton, MO 63026) and walk the two-mile greenway path to the event, or take a free shuttle that will run between 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

A “fun parade” will leave Fenton City Park at 9 a.m. by foot or bike en route to the Nature Park.

Following the ribbon cutting, Nature Park will host live music and free snacks from Kona Ice and TreauX’s Cajun BBQ until 11:30 a.m.
