ST. LOUIS — The Mehlville School District is offering higher pay for support staff positions and will host open interviews Thursday, June 15, to help fill positions.
Those interested in being bus drivers, second-shift custodians and part-time school food technicians can attend the event located at Central Office, 3120 Lemay Ferry Road, from 9-11 a.m. according to a press release.
Applicants will have a chance to meet with department directors, receive application assistance, learn about job benefits and interview for a position.
The district has open 18 custodian positions, 15 bus driver positions and eight food technician positions.
The school district has had support staff shortages for the past three years, and throughout the 2022-23 school year, the district remained 85% staffed with bus drivers and custodians, but hired outside companies for groundskeeping.
With the passage of Prop E in April, Mehlville School District is offering competitive compensation for the upcoming school year, according to the press release.
“Prop E is making our schools stronger by allowing us to invest in all of our employees through competitive compensation,” said Dr. Shannon Pike, executive director of human resources.
“These pay increases will help us keep our talented staff and recruit the best and brightest new teachers and support staff.”
Below are salary highlights as stated in the press release:
- School food technicians start between $15.50 and $18.70 per hour depending on experience
- Custodians start between $16.25 and $19.45 per hour depending on experience
- Bus drivers start between $18.55 and $21.75 per hour depending on experience
