ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — The newest park in the St. Louis region will get its first moments in the sun starting this weekend.

Brentwood Park, located at 2924 Brazeau Ave., is the product of a 2019 sales tax vote for Brentwood Bound, a flood mitigation project that includes a 32-acre park in what was formerly an industrial area.

The park connects to the Great Rivers Greenway Trail and includes an amphitheater, pavilion, walking trails and a destination playground still under construction that should be finished by the end of the year.

An official opening ceremony and ribbon cutting ceremony for the park is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday.

Saturday’s grand opening celebration between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. includes a mobile “Escape Room”, a Bubble Bus, airbrush tattoo artists, axe throwing and caricature artists, along with food vendors and appearances by Fredbird from the St. Louis Cardinals and Louie from the St. Louis Blues.

The city estimates the one-half of one percent sales tax will generate $3.2 million annually for Brentwood Bound flood mitigation projects until it is scheduled to sunset in 2044.

Bluebird Park

The public will also get its first look at improvements this weekend at another St. Louis area park, in Ellisville.

The area around the amphitheater at Bluebird Park, located at 225 Kiefer Creek Rd., has been under construction since last summer but reopens Thursday for the city’s summer concert series at 7 p.m. and a Friday outdoor dusk showing of the movie "Minions: The rise of Gru."

Funded largely by a St. Louis County grant of more than $400,000, the amphitheater now has upper and lower plaza areas, accessible seating, stairs and a covered area atop the large hill overlooking the stage.

Meramec Greenway

At least one other significant completed outdoor recreation project will get unveiled to the public later in June, when the cities of Fenton, Sunset Hills, Kirkwood, along with the Missouri Department of Transportation mark the expansion of the Meramec Greenway along the I-44 corridor.

A celebration is planned for June 24 starting at 10 a.m.
