ST. LOUIS — With nearly two dozen car break-ins in St. Louis City last weekend, people can expect an increased police presence around Downtown St. Louis for the Memorial Day Weekend in addition to its summer violence prevention detail.

A total of 22 car break-ins took place in Downtown and Downtown West, with a majority happening in the Tums parking lot near Busch Stadium, according to Police Capt. Joseph Morici. He mentioned no firearms were stolen from the vehicles.

Police say the Cardinals were notified about the car break-ins and Capt. Morici explained police usually have an “after action” conversation with the baseball team about incidents that occur in and around Busch Stadium.

“We have a very good relationship with the Cardinals,” he said. “We’re in contact with them.”

Additionally, the police were made aware of reckless driving last weekend in the Baden neighborhood near North Broadway and Calvary.

Morici said the summer violence prevention detail responded to that area which led to the group of vehicles leaving the city limits.

The summer violence prevention detail uses resources such as traffic enforcement, air support, and will collaborate with specialized units, park rangers, deputy marshals and the sheriff’s office.
