1. Special prosecutor appointed in contempt cases against Kim Gardner

A special prosecutor has been appointed in the contempt cases involving St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner and a now former assistant prosecutor over that attorney’s failure to appear for a trial. The St. Louis Circuit Court appointed former St. Louis City assistant circuit attorney Allison Schreiber Lee as the special prosecuting attorney. Lee, a Sandberg Phoenix shareholder, currently practices family law.  

2. MetroLink testing mobile metal detectors, adding officers for summer

Metal detectors are coming to select MetroLink stations as part of a pilot program launched Wednesday by Metro Transit. The move comes just days after a 69-year-old man allegedly shot and killed a 21-year-old man following a verbal altercation while on a train heading to the Maplewood station.

3. 'Very brave'-What Illinois first responders saw while arriving on scene dust storm crash

Wind-whipped dust created “whiteout” conditions for drivers on I-55 in southern Illinois Monday, and it also created an unknown for first responders arriving on the scene.

4. Missouri Gov. downplays potential state control of SLMPD, as legislative session nears end

Roughly 12 hours after a filibuster in the State Senate ended without action on a bill that would put control of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department under a state appointed commission, Missouri Gov. Mike Parson was noncommittal about whether he would sign the bill into law if it passed.

5. Missouri native Sheryl Crow is heading to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Sheryl Crow, Missy Elliott, Willie Nelson, Chaka Khan, “Soul Train” creator Don Cornelius and the late George Michael have all been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, with Kate Bush also finally reaching the top of that hill. Crow tweeted yesterday to her fans to nominate her into the Hall of Fame and the fans did not disappoint.

St. Louis Cardinals announce jersey sponsorship deal with Stifel

Prior to Tuesday night’s series opener against the Los Angeles Angels, St. Louis Cardinals President Bill DeWitt III announced a seven-year sponsorship agreement with Stifel, the St. Louis-based wealth management firm.
