ST. LOUIS — One day after the St. Louis Battlehawks set the XFL record for points in a game in Saturday’s 53-28 win over Orlando to end the regular season, the team learned it wasn't enough to qualify for the postseason.
The Seattle Sea Dragons, who defeated St. Louis last week, won its finale against Las Vegas at home Sunday night by a score of 28-9.
St. Louis could have clinched the second seed in the North Division with a win over Seattle last week. Instead, the teams split their regular season head-to-head matchups and finished with matching 7-3 records, bringing in a series of tiebreakers into play.
Seattle ultimately prevailed on a fifth tiebreaker.
According to a St. Louis team spokesperson, Seattle finished one point better in the combination of Total Points For/Total Points Allowed.
STL 249 points for (2nd-3pts)/202 points against (4th-1pt) = 4pts
SEA 243 points for (4th-1p)/177 points against (1st-4pts) = 5pts
The Sea Dragons advance to next Sunday’s XFL North championship against the DC Defenders. Arlington and Houston compete for the South championship on Saturday.
The two winners meet to decide the league’s champion May 13 in San Antonio.
