ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. — Two road projects in St. Charles County are underway by the highway department to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion and improve safety at two high-volume intersections with more road work planned soon.

In the St. Peters area, a $1.6 million contract was awarded to widen the intersection of Central School Road and St. Peters Howell Road in all directions. Each road will gain an additional turn lane and there will be a driver/merge lane on both sides of the intersection, according to a press release.

Construction is expected to be completed by June.

South of Interstate 70 in the Wentzville area, a $5.8 million contract was awarded for the intersection of Route Z and Route N to be relocated to the east to better align the intersection, according to the press release.

The new intersection will be expanded in all directions with a new traffic light. Construction is scheduled to be completed by late 2023 or early 2024.

“Both road improvement projects are funded by the voter-approved St. Charles County half-cent Transportation Sales Tax, along with Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program funding,” the press release states.
