ST. LOUIS- U.S. Rep. Cori Bush is asking the EPA to investigate the source of an odor impacting more than a half dozen St. Louis neighborhoods over a period of years, leading to concerns of potentially “adverse health outcomes.”

In a Wednesday letter to a regional EPA administrator, Bush said she’s heard of constituent complaints from the Mt. Pleasant, McKinley Heights, Gravois Park, Marine Villa Benton Park, Lafayette Square and Soulard neighborhoods

“Community members have described the odor as “acrid, burning iPhones, an electrical fire, burning herbicides, and metallic”” the letter said. “These fumes have persisted in the neighborhoods stated above for years and residents often feel they cannot venture outside of their homes as the fumes are so debilitating.”

The letter asks for a response by May 3, 2023.
