FERGUSON, Mo. – It’s the first day on the job for Ferguson’s new police chief. Chief Troy Doyle was sworn into office this afternoon in front of a crowd including his family, friends and former boss, St. Louis County Police Chief Kenneth Gregory.

Doyle will replace Frank McCall who resigned from the position earlier this year. There have been at least six police chiefs in Ferguson since Michael Brown’s death in 2014.

In a Facebook video of the swearing-in ceremony, Chief Doyle told the crowd he would work to be in full compliance with the consent decree issued in the fallout from Brown’s shooting, saying it won’t be an easy task but necessary to make sure the community is safe.

He said he would crack down on speeding vehicles, something he says many residents say is a problem.

Chief Doyle also discussed using new technology to analyze crime and better allocate resources to those areas.

To his new department, Doyle said he wants to be transparent and approachable. He said he is creating a committee to get feedback from officers and also wants to include some morale boosting activities.

Earlier this month, then Lt. Col. Doyle tweeted that he was retiring from the St. Louis County Police Department after 31 years of .

While with St. Louis County, Doyle filed an employment discrimination suit against County Executive Page, claiming Page promised him the chief’s job before pulling his support due to what Doyle claims Page cited as a lack of support from potential campaign donors.
