FERGUSON, Mo. – Days after announcing his retirement from the St. Louis County Police Department, Troy Doyle has been named the new Ferguson Police Chief.

Ferguson Mayor Ella Jones posted on Facebook Tuesday night thanking Doyle for selecting Ferguson. The announcement reportedly came during Tuesday night’s City Council meeting when the council unanimously passed a resolution making him the chief.

Mayor Jones’ post goes on to say Doyle has a track record for working toward a safer community for all. She said the citizens are looking for their government to keep them safe from speeding traffic and crimes.

Lastly, she commented “Chief Doyle’s service record and commitment to safety personifies the commitment to the well-being and safety that we are working to achieve for all the citizens in Ferguson.”

Doyle will replace Frank McCall who resigned from the position earlier this year. He was promoted from assistant chief in August 2021 to replace Jason Armstrong. McCall was Ferguson’s seventh police chief in as many years.

Last week, Doyle tweeted that after 31 years of dedicated service to the St. Louis County Police, it was time to say goodbye. Lt. Col. Doyle said his last day with the department is March 24.

He wrote that as he looked back on his career, he was proud of the work he has made on the lives of those he has served.

Doyle wrote that while he is retiring, he has full confidence in the great people who will continue to serve this community.

While with St. Louis County,  Doyle filed an employment discrimination suit against County Executive Page, claiming Page promised him the chief’s job before pulling his support due to what Doyle claims Page cited as a lack of support from potential campaign donors
