ST. LOUIS–The process to shrink the St. Louis Board of Aldermen from 28 to 14 wards took another step Tuesday as voters cast their ballots in primary elections, including several races which pitted incumbents against each other while vying for one of two spots to advance to the April 4 general election.
With unofficial results in for the night, one race is not yet settled, pending the counting of provisional ballots and military ballots, the latter of which have a deadline to arrive at the board of election commissioners by Friday.
In ward 9, Michael Browning came in first with 1003 votes, besting a pair of incumbents in Alderman Michael Gras and Tina Pihl who each finished with 868 votes.
In the 14th ward, a pair of incumbents appear to have gone down in defeat as realtor Ebony Washington (625 votes) and State Rep. Rasheen Aldridge (587) bested Alderman Brandon Bosley (527) and Alderman James Page (375).
In the 13th Ward primary where incumbents Norma Walker, Pamela Boyd and Lisa Middlebrook were all running, Boyd (746) and Walker (504) advance to April over Middlebrook (389).
In Ward 4 Aldermen Joe Vaccaro (1388) and Alderman Bret Narayan (1353) advanced over Casey Otto (220).
Candidates in Ward 5 (Joe Vollmer and Helen Petty), Ward 6 (Daniela Velazquez and Jennifer Florida), Ward 10 (Shameem Clark Hubbard and Emmett Coleman), and Ward 11 (Laura Keys and Carla Wright) automatically advanced to the April 4 general municipal election because only two candidates ran in the ward primary.
Board President Megan Green and Ward 3 Alderman Shane Cohn ran unopposed.
