ST. LOUIS– As 2022 draws to a close, Google is sharing the search trends for the country as well as St. Louis. Wordle and election results topped the searches for the entire country, but there are some unusual things that popped up for the St. Louis trends.

Google Trends in St. Louis:

  • Only place in the country that searched for blues more than any other music genre
  • Muntjac deer was the top trending animal
  • St. Louis had the top trending sports bar “near me” search, followed by Sioux Falls, S.D. and Wichita, Kan.
  • Grinder sandwich was the top trending recipe in St. Louis
  • Vegan restaurants near me were searched for more in St. Louis than anywhere else in the U.S.

St. Louis is home to the National Blues Museum. The city is said to have influenced the Blues and sits on the Blues Highway, known as Highway 61. The museum’s site says musicians often stopped to perform in St. Louis as they traveled from the south to the big recording labels in Chicago. W.C. Handy’s “St. Louis Blues” is one of the most recognizable pieces of American music, according to the museum. The city’s hockey team is also named for the Handy’s song, St. Louis Blues. The name also highlights the city’s role in the history of the music genre.

And when it comes to muntjac deer, the only mention of one in Missouri appears to be at the Lazy L Safari Park, a walk-thru zoo near Cape Girardeau, Mo. The animal is the oldest and most primitive of antlered deer, according to the San Diego Zoo. The short, stocky deer has tiny antler and dagger-shaped small tusks. Some refer to the muntjac deer as a barking deer because it has a warning call that sounds similar. The muntjac live largely in China and some were introduced into the UK in the 20th century, according to The Wildlife Trusts.

A female baby Barking Deer, or Indian Muntjac, looks up as she feeds in a wheat field in Naddi Village in Dharmsala, India, Friday, April 21, 2017. An Indian woman Sulochana found the deer near her field two months ago while collecting firewood and the family has been looking after it ever since. A burgeoning tourism industry and an increase in the local population has claimed more forest land for human use forcing wild animals to occasionally stray into human habitats.
