ST. LOUIS–Employees in Missouri, Illinois and 25 other states and Washington, D.C. will see minimum wage increases starting in 2023. 

Missouri will see an increase of 85 cents, bringing the minimum wage to $12.00 on January 1.

Illinois’ minimum wage is increasing from $12 an hour to $13 an hour, one of 11 states that will see a dollar or more increase. The other states include Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Maine, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Virginia and Washington. 

Some states like Maine, Montana and Oregon will see minimum wage increases in 2023 that are based on a cost of living index. 

The federal minimum wage is $7.25 and hasn’t changed since 2009. There are 15 states that have minimum wage rates that match the federal minimum. There are five states with no state minimum wage, so the federal amount is used.
