BLOOMSDALE, Mo. — A new campsite located 45 minutes outside of St. Louis does not have WiFi or television and provides guests with a phone lockbox so they can detach from the world during their stay.

The Getaway has locations throughout Missouri and in other states, but the Getaway St. Francois outpost that spans 198 acres opened Nov. 3 in Bloomsdale, Missouri.

This outpost consists of 40 cabins with expansive forest views and are near trails along a winding creek, according to Kaitie Friese, Getaway St. Francois general manager.

“Getaway is unique because it allows our guests to completely disconnect from the pressures of everyday life while enjoying nature — we encourage it,” she said.

“Our cabins are also all designed by Getaway and custom-built with everything guests need to disconnect in nature. The cabins are naturally secluded and there are no communal areas. Our guests can truly disconnect and enjoy the free time they have granted themselves.”

Each tiny cabin has a private outdoor space with a fire pit and picnic table. Guests can enter their private cabin with a passcode that is sent to them and inside will find a large bed, heating and A/C, a bathroom and a small kitchen.

“We encourage our guests to put their cellphone in the lockboxes provided and truly disconnect from the outside world, lay beneath the large window and breathe in the fresh air,” Friese said.

“We hope our guests enjoy the disconnected time during their stay, light a fire, roast s’mores and reconnect with loved ones.”

For visitors who want to explore outside their cabin, the outpost is close to the Mark Twain National Forest and there are many nearby attractions, including easy to moderate trails such as Pickle Springs, local restaurants such as Dew Drop Inn and Kozy Kitchen, The Mine at Bonne Terre, Critter Lane Petting Zoo, among others, according to Friese.

“The surrounding nature is home to local wildlife, perfect for guests aiming to fully immerse themselves in nature,” she said. “It's amazing what we can do when we put our devices away and enjoy our surroundings.”

Friese enjoys helping guests reconnect with nature and loved ones, and provide them with opportunities of well-deserved relaxation.

“Here at Getaway St. Francois, my favorite part is the amount of opportunities that have been created for not only the guest but associates as well, to be able to make space in the world for free time,” Friese said.

“Guests are able to reflect on the wonders of nature, escape from the daily grind, and enjoy the scenery while relaxing! The team is encouraged to take time for themselves, with their family, and cherish the little things that are usually forgotten about!”

Since opening last week, St. Francois outpost guests have left comment cards detailing their experiences.

"Before I arrived here, I was in a space where I felt lost and confused. I didn't know if I was capable of inviting ease in my life and redirecting my suffering into joy,” one guest wrote.

“However, I am gladly surprised at how I was able to reconnect with myself and re-established a sense of peace without any distractions. Being submerged in nature has reminded me I can choose peace, joy, and awe in any moment. Thank you."

A guest who stayed at a Getaway location in Osceola, Missouri, enjoyed being off the grid during their stay..

“We were pleasantly surprised. It was such a beautiful escape away from the phone, TV and all other distractions. We loved taking a walk through the trails and checking out the local town. We will definitely be back!”
