ST. LOUIS–With election day one week away, a new poll shows Republican Attorney General Eric Schmitt’s lead in Missouri’s U.S. Senate race back up to double-digits.
Schmitt holds a 51%-39% lead over Democrat Trudy Busch Valentine in a poll conducted by Emerson College Oct. 26-28 on behalf of KTVI-TV’s Nexstar Media. Six percent of respondents were undecided. When undecideds were forced to choose a candidate, Schmitt’s lead expanded to a 54-40% edge.
Regardless of which candidate they supported, 70% of respondents expect Schmitt to win Nov. 8. The poll had a margin of error of +/- 3.
The survey shows a slight uptick for Schmitt, who had a nine point advantage in a poll conducted Oct. 24-25 on behalf of Missouri Scout but has largely maintained a double-digit advantage since becoming the nominee.
The poll also asked voters about a hypothetical 2024 matchup between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, with Trump holding a 53%-37% advantage.
A plurality of likely voters also said they supported Amendment 3, the statewide ballot question that would legalize recreational marijuana and allow for certain criminal record expungement. On that question, 47% supported it, 39% opposed and 14% were undecided.
