ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis County Health Department is reminding the public that at-home COVID-19 antigen test kits should not be used past their expiration date.

Since the tests can degrade or break down over time, expired kits could give inaccurate test results, according to a press release.

“The FDA has extended the expiration date on some antigen kits beyond the printed date which allows the user more time to use the specific test,” the press release states.

“According to the FDA, an extended expiration date means the manufacturer provided data showing that the shelf-life is longer than was known when the test was first authorized.”
