ST. LOUIS — An open house with free activities, food and drinks is planned for Saturday, Oct. 8, at Steinberg Rink and Pavilion as part of an ongoing effort to turn it into a year-round venue.
Guests will have a chance to play games, roller skate, listen to live music and view interior renderings of an updated Steinberg Pavilion from 4-7 p.m., according to an online press release.
The games and activities will be a sample of what the venue could offer all year long as Forest Park officials work on plans for upgrading Steinberg Rink and Pavilion in a project called “Steinberg Reimagined.”
“The live music, games, roller skating and other activities at the open house are the result of ongoing and extensive public engagement we began last year,” Lesley Hoffarth, president and executive director of Forest Park Forever, said in the press release.
“Over 3,300 people from across the region have filled out comment forms, telling us what they want to see and experience at Steinberg Reimagined. It will be exciting to see some of their choices in person at the open house.”
The project has four major components, including, the Steinberg Pavilion, the skating surface, the adjacent landscape, and the types of activities “Steinberg Reimagined” will provide, according to the press release.
The Forest Park Master Plan, approved by the St. Louis Board of Aldermen in 1995, allows for Steinberg to operate as an all-season recreation support facility.
“Although we are still in the preliminary stages of transforming Steinberg, I’m excited about the progress we’ve made and the input we’ve received from the community,” Greg Hayes, director of parks, recreation, and forestry for the city of St. Louis, said in the press release.
“This event will showcase what we can offer at Steinberg year-round, and there will be a wide range of options for people to choose from.”
Guests are encouraged to provide feedback on the preliminary Steinberg Pavilion renderings.
The open house is sponsored by the Forest Park Forever organization and city of St. Louis Parks, Recreation and Forestry. No RSVP is required.
For those who are not able to attend the open house, a “Steinberg Reimagined” virtual open house will take place Tuesday, Oct. 11, via Zoom.
Officials from the Forest Park Forever organization and the design team will talk about the preliminary concept displays and attendees will have a chance to provide feedback.
Additionally, the “Steinberg Reimagined” preliminary concept displays will be available for public viewing starting Oct. 11 at different locations around St. Louis.
From Oct. 11-17, the preliminary concepts can be viewed at Carpenter Public Library, Ferguson Community Center and the Wohl Recreation Center.
From Oct. 18-24, the preliminary concepts can be viewed at The Heights Community Center, The Jackie Joyner Kersee Center and The Pointe at Ballwin Commons.
