ALTON, Ill. – The Alton community is mourning the loss of a beloved business owner killed in a crash while on vacation in Jamaica. My Just Desserts Alton posted on its Facebook page that its owner, Yvonne Campbell, passed away. The bakery says it will be closed until further notice and thanks the community for its thoughts and prayers.

The Jamaican Observer reports seven people died in the head-on collision Saturday. Five of the victims were tourists.

Campbell’s oldest daughter created a GoFundMe page for her mother, saying she was injured in the bad crash. The site has raised more than $73,000 in two days. A prayer vigil was held Tuesday night in Florissant to remember Campbell.

Great Rivers & Routes and Alton Main Street both posted about Campbell’s passing on their Facebook pages.

Campbell was a member of the Great Rivers & Routes Tourism Bureau Board of Directors. The group says she “had a passionate love of Alton”. The group also says her hugs and shining spirit will be missed.

The Alton Main Street organization posted on Facebook that,”Yvonne’s love for her family and the support that she has shown to her fellow business owners were second to none.”

This Saturday, the U Fit Fitness & Wellness will be donating all its proceeds to Campbell’s family. You can learn more about how to take part in the workout here.

A group is also donating shirts with the My Just Desserts logo on it. All profits will go to the family. You can learn more about the efforts at Granny’s Uniforms Work Fashions & More.

Campbell was an Alton High School graduate and earned a culinary degree at Southwestern Illinois College.
