ST. LOUIS–Tuesday marks the first day Missouri voters can vote absentee ahead of the state’s August 2 primary election.

According to the Missouri Secretary of State’s office, one of the following conditions must be met to qualify to vote absentee:

  1. Absence of Election day from the jurisdiction in which the voter is registered.

  2. Incapacity or confinement due to illness or physical disability, including a person who is primarily responsible for the physical care of an incapacitated or confined person due to illness or disability.

  3. Religious belief or practice

  4. Employment as an election authority

  5. Incarceration, provided all qualifications for voting are retained

  6. Certified participation in the address confidentiality program

According to state law mail-in or faxed requests for absentee ballots are due no later than 5pm on the second Wednesday prior to any election. Absentee voting can be done in the office of the local election authority until 5pm August 1. Absentee ballots are due by 7pm August 2, either by mail, in person, or delivered by a 2nd degree relative.

Legislation awaiting a decision from Missouri Governor Mike Parson that would require a Voter ID and would allow for no-excuse early voting would not take effect until August 28 if it is signed into law.
