ST. LOUIS — The U.S. Postal Service’s new Mighty Mississippi stamp series was unveiled Thursday, which features the Gateway Arch.
The stamp series honors the Mississippi River with 10 “exquisite” photographic stamps that represent a state along the path of the river, according to the U.S. Postal Service website.
“The Mississippi is at the core of the nation’s heritage and is variously referred to as America’s backbone, its heart, and its soul,” the website states.
The states featured in the stamp series include Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky, Arkansas, Tennessee, New Orleans, and Mississippi.
“Missouri is represented by the St. Louis Skyline at sundown, punctuated by the Gateway Arch,” the description of the stamp states.
The photo was captured by Evan Spiler.
St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones and Postmaster Jeff Drake attended the unveiling.
“Now, whenever you send a letter, St. Louis can be a small part of that journey,” Jones said in a Facebook post.
The Mighty Mississippi stamps are being issued as Forever stamps, which are always equal in value to the current First-Class Mail one-ounce price, according to the website.
“With relentless progress, diverse influence, and determined wildness, the Mississippi River perfectly epitomizes the nation it shapes and serves,” the website states.
