An EF-0 tornado touched down in Kirkwood last night, carving a 3 mile path of damage through St. Louis County. It came during a second wave of severe storms moved through the region Thursday. The first area of storms crossed the area around noon on Thursday, causing widespread power outages. By 5:00 p.m., the second wave pushed through with even more intensity.

The National Weather Service said the weak tornado touched down on the northeast side of Kirkwood and damaged trees along a 3 mile path until it lifted near Old Warson Country Club. There were also reports of a home damaged from a falling tree in a Glendale. 

Damage from the second wave also uprooted trees across the area, flooded roadways in south St. Louis city. Residents all over the region reported shelf clouds and even some captured photos of funnel clouds.

Ameren is reporting about 6,000 power outages Friday morning. At one point, there were 20,000 outages in Illinois and Missouri. You can check the outages here.

Tomorrow will feature a good amount of sunshine early in the day, ahead of a potent cold front. Storms will develop tomorrow night into Saturday. Some storms could become severe, containing gusty winds and hail. Make sure you have your notifications enabled.
